最初は、ぴかぴかでつやつやの赤いリンゴの写真に、「りんご つるつる」という言葉がついている。その同じリンゴが、少しずつ変わっていき、しわしわになり、ぱんぱんになり、しなしなになり、ぐんにゃりとなり、やがて哀れな姿に。作者が１年近くの間リンゴを観察して記録した写真絵本。それぞれの写真には、ごく短い言葉がついているだけだが、生きているものは時間とともに否応なく変化していくこと、そして、それを糧にしてまた次の命が育っていくことなどが、リアルな写真から伝わってくる。

A photo of a bright red apple appears with the text “Smooth Apple.” The same apple changes little by little over time, becoming wrinkly, swollen, soft, limp, and then bug-eaten. But is that the end? The author observed and photographed the same apple for about a year to create this picture book.
